hello all,
my wife and i have had our female viz pup for about a week now, she is just shy of 9 weeks old. i have a question on crate/potty training, particularly at night. she is being crate trained and is doing just fine. she puts up minimal fuss, maybe 20 sec of light whining and then shes quiet and has not peed in the crate....so far i have been taking her out about every 2.5 to 3 hrs at night...basically when she starts fussing a little. ...should i keep this up or should i make her wait longer. there is the occational mess in the house but not many. thanks for the help!

I am trying to remember with Indy as a pup. But I think at 8-9 weeks he was going from 10:30 at night till I get up at 6 without being let out.

Personally, I'd keep going for a while longer. Any time the pup whines or fusses, take 'em out. It won't be much longer, really.

That said, with the Vizslas, they just may want to spend some extra time with you! ;)

Best of luck. Crate training is the way to go.

It varies from pup to pup. Some can go all night without having to go out but some have to go out every couple hours. If the dog fusses I would take it out. Also dogs are like people and eat something they shouldn't have and might have to get up more often then normal.

Brought Hank home at 8 weeks. Put him in the crate on the floor & he cut-up something fierce. Put the crate on a bench next to the bed so he could see me, he watched me lay down, & went quietly to sleep on a sweatshirt I had worn all day. I never had to let him out during the night except for the occasional puppy tummy ache. I cut-off his water 2 hours before bed; still do that today with both dogs. Works for us.
