How do you run a dog on public land in the offseason

I live in MN and I've read things in the hunting rulebook about certain times that are permissible. Besides this, I'm wondering if this is common, and do you let the dog flush or point wild birds. Is it only for exercise. I know nothing about it.

States often times will declare nesting season date ranges and others address chasing game in season and out of season. I would read the regs and if it's not clear, call your local conservation agent and ask.

Perfectly fine to let your dog point birds in the off season on public lands. In fact Wild birds would teach a young dog everything he needs.
