The poll shows two people as carrying their guns "other". What does that mean?

After 18 miles of walking, sometimes I find myself holding the barrel while the butt-stock drags in the grass behind me!!:D

But, before I get to that point, I carry loaded, safety on. I shoot left handed with a right handed 11-87. The safety is awkward, but I don't HAVE to shoot every bird that gets up in front of my flusher.

Since I shoot left-handed, when hunting in a group, I always take the right flank. My natural carry keeps the barrel pointed up and to the right. in 25 years of military service I have seen a lot of poor weapon handling/muzzle awareness. I keep track of mine, and the barrel of everyone else.

Its always nice to hunt with a Lefty you get the best of the birds now mater what way they fly.

A gun without a safety should be retired to the ring of honor. :)
Safeties should be taken off as your gun goes into shooting position, about the time your looking down the barrel at the rooster. No need to take off the safety if you see hen.
It's automatic for me and I give it no thought. If going on a hunting trip with a new partner I would mention this. So I wouldn't have to send him back on the bus.
Always watch for other hunters and know where their at, and for no reason point the gun in the direction of another hunter.
With my Labs you don't shoot at the low fliers my dogs are often right under them.
I carry the shotgun with the barrel up. I carry a sling for the long treks back to the truck.
While rifle hunting I use the sling 90% of the time. Safety is always on of course. During a tough climb or descent the shell comes out of the chamber.
