How cold is too cold in a kennel?

Perfect example. My older dog rides great in the cab. Lays down and sleeps for the most part. My younger dog is a PIA in the cab. Also not sure how we would do it with 4 dogs to SD for 1000 miles each way and 2 weeks of hunting. I’d be ready to ride in the crate after about 2 hours of that shit!!!

Also every dog needs time alone in the field to develop, he has stunted his young dogs future because she is passive to the older dog.. doesn’t see it… what a high price to pay over kennel training. I’m done
My granddad ran trials with setters back in the 40's, 50's, and early 60's. He always told me "I don't want my young dogs sticking their nose in the older dogs ass". Which is why he always hunted his younger dogs separate. He also always said dogs don't train dogs, handlers do.

It ain't rocket science with 4 dogs, this is how I would do it.

I always have a bench seat, my dogs ride next to me. I don't believe in putting my dogs in a cage, I would never do that. I've never been in a car accident in my life.
Where does your dog go when it's sick, injured, skunked or you only want to put one dog out hunting? How do you contain an injured tog and drive at the same time? What if the dogs gets skunked? Your dogs never get diarrhea on trips? No thanks. I always have a kennel in the back of my truck. Blankets and fans too....depending. Better to have and not need it, than need it and have them sitting on your bench seat next to you. There are some things I don't want to sit in or smell when I'm driving.

The last time my dog got into a skunk was 1972.

My dog rides shotgun in the front seat of my motor home. She has a harness with a strap around the seat like a seatbelt. It’s an air ride seat like the truckers use. When she gets a little cranky after 8-10 hours she goes in her kennel under the dinette. When we are actually hunting she has another kennel in the back of my jeep. I would never let a large dog unrestrained in a moving vehicle. Not safe for the dog the driver and those in traffic.

Exactly, Had a guy tell me his old dog is teaching his young one! Always hunted them together. When his old one got down, he asked me to hunt with him. The young dog didn't really hunt, just looked around for the o dog. It was kind of sad.

You need to get out more. Skunks, porcupines, snakes, fences, old barbwire, tree branches, corn stalks, sharp rocks, sharp ice and gopher holes are all common where I go. All good reasons to have a first aid kit and a place where you can contain a dog when needed. Regardless, this has all been discussed before. Your dogs....your choice.

Once Again, no one asked you how you would do it. Read the comment I made in the context of the thread replying to the stance of dogs shouldn’t be in kennels or boxes.
Well genius, you said "not sure how we would do it with 4 dogs" so I replied. Don't post if you don't want quoted.

Well genius, I said it in regards to not sure how we would do it leaving all 4 dogs in the cab of the truck and no kennels or boxes in use. That is the second time I have said that. Maybe stop and read what is written and the context of it.

@WKBH Do you work hard to be a pompous ass or does it come naturally?

It comes naturally. It flows easily quoting you!!!!!

I can just picture goose cruising the backroads \, pulling out in front of me on the black top at 25mph, the only thing that would make it better is if they were loose in the flat bed or riding on top of the tool box.

I understand what you're saying, I just don't like kennels or cages. I have had injuries with my dogs before, sure have. ACL tears, deep cut wounds, have never had a pork well haven't had a porcupine since the '70s, or a skunk.
