How cold is cold?

I know phez hold tight to the cover and bunch up when it is cold out or snow on the ground. So what is "cold" what seems to be the right temp for optimum phez smashing? thanks

I hunted NW Kansas back in the late '80s with a wind chill of -42 degrees. I stood in 1 spot and shot a triple on pheasants with my O/U, that's cold. I hunted in -18 about 5 years ago in NC Kansas with 6-8 inches of snow down, caught 9 pheasants by hand in front of points. As I've gotten older, that hurts more!

I am becoming more and more of a believe in the moon tables. Ive seen birds flush 200yds ahead in 80 degrees and -2....Ive seen them hold tight in those temps. Ive seen them flush wild on opening day, and hold as tight as tame birds in January. I think its a combination of weather, wind, temp and I think the barometric pressure and moon do play an effect. I'd sure like to see a biologist look at that sometime. Pressure and Moon affect fish, deer, coyotes....why not pheasant?

On dates when weather is not a factor, I beleive the moon position can effect movement and associated feeding. It is amazing how often the deer and the pheasants are moving at the same time, usually earlier than expected on nice days. Also if they sense a storm coming but that's another matter.
