Hoping the Weather Stays As Is in the West!!

I am assuming based on previous years all the upland birds here (quail, pheasants and chukar) are nested up now and should be hatching within a week. I am really hoping for stable weather for the next week or two and lots of bugs for the little guys to eat for a while. Last year was as good of a year for quail, pheasants and chukar and although I feel a little greedy, I would love even more birds to pursue this fall!!

Here in NW Iowa, things are looking great...except for my food plots! Not sure if the birds are getting after the seeds once they sprout again, or what the deal is. I don't have enough seed to replant everything. Might have to check with PF and see if they have any extra. With all the rains we have been getting, I don't see the holes where they have been dug-out. The one new plot has a nice stand, so it isn't the seed.

Wow. Just where in the upland range is that? o_O

Peak hatch is typically the last two weeks of June - through 1st week of July in the Dakotas, Minnesota, and northern Iowa.

Saw my first hatch of bobs in Oklahoma a few days ago, just caught a glimps but seemed to be double digits. A farmer friend is reporting a fair amount of pheasant chicks in Texas panhandle during wheat chopping, but too soon to make a call. It seems we are moving back to La Niña mid year, never a good thing for our part of the world. Im in your camp and would like to see one more year of good hunting before we get dry in the La Niña cycle

The Kansas wheat harvest is starting way too early. Some reports from Gt. Bend and Hutch area. Recent rains around the Ponderosa has moved it back but a bit, but fields only days away.

Just got back from my annual crappie fishing trip to eastern Oregon. Had a great time with great friends caught lots and lots of crappie. I saw young quail and chukar everywhere. The quail were about the size of a golf ball. There were grass hoppers everywhere and the quail and chukar were gorging themselves on them. It was pretty cool to watch.
