Hill City for four days running has been the hottest place in the U.S, hitting 115 yesterday. What a disaster for the birds.

Quail chicks start dying at 103! This isn't good! Too wide spread and the forecast has it continuous for at least a week. Awful early to start this again.

Looks like renesting may be the best hope for some areas. Tough break for all the wildlife.:( I'm guessing the blue/green algae will also be terrible this year, probably killing many other animals that try to cool off and drink in ponds and lakes.

This is the earliest and hottest summer I can remeber. 80 and 88 were bad but I don't remember the heat setting in this early in the year.

Also I was hearing some good reports on quial populations from farmers back home. Now this heat. Damn we are having some bad luck for the birds these last couple of years.

OK guys......lets all repeat the mantra.....It will rain soon and the bird will be plentiful come fall:)

I really pray that you do receive rain damn soon!
We have had some nice rains here in KY........after almost 6 weeks+ of heat and drought.

It's not good here....but nothing like ya'll must endure.

Rain dance tonight....

I'm dancing, dancing, dancing . . . rain please.

The elk bulls in Bear Country are doing OK, as well as 4 mulie bucks I saw at Ellsworth AFB last week in this awful heat. The reports are that the hoppers are out in full force. If those chicks can find some shade/water, and with hoppers to gorge on, they'll be OK. The hawks will kill more chicks than hot weather anyway.
