Hen to rooster ratios?

It just occurred to me that I see way more roosters then hens most days that I hunt.
There are days where the hens are 20× the number but that isn't often. It does happen on public ground more then private.

So far this year I'm seeing a lot of roosters. SD definitely was more roosters than hens. MN has been a lot of roosters too. One thing is though I've flushed a lot of family groups the first few weeks this year and then it's just birds going everywhere and often difficult to distinguish between the two.

We're after roosters, right? Experienced pheasant hunters learn to hunt where they feel they're most likely to find roosters, who somewhat commonly aren't hanging out with hens. Early season, when roosters seem to be more scattered than hens, there are definitely days when I see more roosters. Not a lot, but some. Otherwise it seems like the seen hen to rooster ratio varies greatly, commonly between 2:1 & maybe 8:1. Hard hit public land. I don't believe it's because that's the actual ratio in the area. I think it's regularly because roosters are better at making themselves invisible.

Can you email me your top secret file that contains info regarding how to find these locations? Some real life honey holes wouldn't be frowned upon either.

I honestly have no honey holes. Things change too much from season to season. But I'll send you that file if you sign an affidavit, promising to only look for said locations in eastern Codington County, along the far, far western reaches of Lewis & Clark Lake, & around Gregory. I hear Gregory is a good area.

Hunted with my son and 2 of my weims tonight. First 10 birds were hens. Wondering if I jinxed us. Finally shot a rooster took the dogs a while to retrieve it. They worked the blind retrieve for a couple minutes made a recovery 70 yards away. Then 5 minutes later another rooster shot. Looking for it probably had 40 birds , mostly roosters , erupt out of range. Got 1 more rooster after that. My son who has hunted quite a bit with me said that big flush was the biggest he has ever seen .Thought it was pretty awesome.
