Hey yall just wanted to introduce myself, I've been a big hunter my whole life but recently moving from east texas to west texas I had my first Pheasant hunt this past season and I was instantly addicted. I would love to get together with some panhandle hunters who have been hunting for a while so I can learn more and keep passing the sport on to my kids. any advice my way will be greatly appreciated. Im looking forward to being apart of UPH.

Welcome to UPH, I would say the first thing is get a Hunting Dog. You will find them more of an asset than you ever thought......Bob

A Big Kansas Welcome

A big Kansas welcome to you, sir! There're lots of good tips on bringing a huntin' dog along on this site in the dog fora. Share your stories. I would like to hear about panhandle pheasant hunting. Is there a wild population there?

Welcome from one Texan to another. What part of TX are you from? Enjoy the site!

I currently live in Lubbock and my in-laws have a couples sections in Friona, Tx west of amarillo its pretty good hunting but the bird population has decreased over the last few years i was considering the surrogator or something similar and less expensive. i have done some serious predator management on the property so there isn't much of a threat anymore so any good ideas? I grew up in Gilmer, Tx which is about 45 miles from Tyler, Tx did mainly whitetail bow hunting and hog hunting.

Welcome Wheeler6. Working on the predators is a good start. With that and some good size areas of prime habitat, go ahead and release pen raised birds. You'll find it works quite well.
