Heading to Eastern Oregon for an Extremely Wet Hunting Trip

I'm heading out for eastern Oregon this Wednesday. The forecast looks like snow and rain for the entire time,. I don't mind hunting in the snow but damn, 37 degrees, wind and rain pushes me to my limit. I guess the good news is that I won't be working and the only other folks out and about are any other crazy folks like myself.

Well damn! Now I know what a bomb cyclone looks and feels like! At least the temperatures were a little warmer than they forecasted. It was raining when we arrived and it was raining when we left. Getting on any back roads was a non starter. We tried to go to a hun and chukar spot one day but couldn't get there. So, we focused on quail and pheasants and aside from being wet and cold every day all day, or if you were wearing wet weather gear, hot and sweaty, the hunting was really good. 4 of us went and killed limits of California quail and were one pheasant short of our limit over the three days. As far as pheasants, I saw more roosters and many many more hens this year than I have since I was a kid. Hopefully, the winter and next spring treats them well because next year could be even better.

Good to hear the pheasant and quail numbers are high there in addition to the high chukar and hun numbers. The hatch seems to have been slightly above average but not crazy in SE Washington. I might have to make a trip south.
