Need to get this dog of mine back out before he drives me bonkers. I am in the La Porte City area and willing to drive with in reason for a day hunt. Anyone got anything going on this week? My other half is heading to do some ice fishing, so I need to get out and do something. I can go solo, but always more fun with others. Plus my little dog is on a 6-9 month recovery.
Willing to meet at any public area to take the dogs for a walk. Drop me a line if you can get out.
 
Going to be in Bremer County in the am. Aldo leopold area. ANy takers.

You are going to a good place! I wish I could go, I will be hunting around bremer/butler county on sunday and maybe saturday morning. I called the conservation officer in butler county to ask him about a public place that i know of and he told me that they are seeing ang getting birds at Aldo leopold east of denver. Good luck my friend!

Kbell I actually had forgotten that my son had a dentist appointment. :mad: So I had to post pone. Then wanted to go today, but had issues(Diabetic) and had a hard time just getting going at all.
ut, I am hoping tomorrow to get out and deer hunt for a few hours. Then maybe Sat. morning chasing some birds.

I am not giving up until I shoot my first truly wild Iowa bird over my dog! This place looks promising, kicked 2 hens out before a Shotgunner kicked me out.

Will keep you posted.
 
3 hours in Tama with not a birds seen, tells me that either I am in the wrong places, looking in the wrong kind of cover or need to take up another sport.:p

only if you were in south dak and not seen a bird would you need to take up another sport lol when i was working in iowa i would drive the backroads for hours and never see a bird so i know its truely tough there heck i may need to take uo another sport as many times as i blank keep at it and bang you will stumble on 1 or 2
 
I will never give up! LMAO . I actually saw a rooster outside of town yesterday! I have NEVER seen a bird in Black Hawk county in the 10 years I have been here. It was cool. To bad I was heading to go deer hunting.

Hey Mstand,
First trip to Iowa was in '98, went to walmart in independence, got my licence and atlas. First spot I hit was Crumbacher. Walked in from the east and my dog locked up within 25 yards along the fence. Knocked it down and thought "wow", gonna be a quick day. That was my first "welcome to Iowa bird". Next thing I see are birds flushing way up ahead. Never got a shot off rest of the day. Stayed in motel in La Porte City. Hit many little areas around there. Lot of nice memories with dog work, dog pointed a triple in road ditch south of Rowley. Unfortunately I was using a gun I wasn't used to and missed every one. One did fly cross road to blazing star prairie so I did get one eventually.
Anyway, although bird numbers weren't that great, always be a fond memory of your area. Take care.
