curious how many bales per acre one could expect? Also, what is a bale of hay worth right now made up of various prairie grasses? just curious...thanks.

I am getting about three bales per acre. What the price is is a good question. Mine is not for sale. It is not very good hay but it is better than snowballs. Maybe $25 per bale, just a guess.

They cut and baled my switch at about 16" high. It was about belly to shoulder high. They did about 3 acres tops, and still got a hay wagon full of squares, bout 60 I think. He gets 3 bucks a bale he told me. Not a weed in it since I sprayed early. Nice stuf for hay. Grew back to waist high now. Not sure the nutritional value of switch. Had he cut it low to 4", he most likely would have more then doubled his bales. I just did not want it cut to the ground. I am told you should be able to get two crops if you choose.

Any grass hay cut early, like in June is dang good feed. Mid August:confused:
Gonna be very poor feed. Better then "snowballs" OH YEAH for sure. Cow feed, yep, ain't no chance of putting much pounds on growing stock.
As far as how many bales per acre. We do have to consider as far as big rounds are concerned. Big rounds run from about 6 hundred pounds to about a ton.
SO, we think tons per acre. Lots of variables there for sure.:(

What do you guys think? I say, 2 tons per acre of poor quality stuff at best.
