Have law makers gone nuts?

What 99 years is not long enough for you? Why should any body decide what is going to happen over a century into the future? That might better be decided by the people that are alive then. It will probably increase the number of people willing to put an easement on their land. Forever is a long time.

As I read it 99 years would be the max--does that mean that you can do them for a smaller period of time?
If I did a 99 yr one it would cover me, my children and my grand childrens life spans--good grief that's enough.

I think the people setting up these easements are getting Government money are a tax break so the "people" are really buying the easement so its owned by the public or conservation group "PF" its placed with. Why give it back! They can set "give" 99 years or less if they wanted but they would not get the Government "peoples" money and they would really have to "GIVE"!! There is a way to buy it back its called mitigation where the easement must be replaced in kind. If you sell off your oil or water rights do you get them back? The government also has the eminent domain law if the land is needed for the public good but they would have to pay a fair price to take it.

This was shot down for the 4th year in a row. The lead for this is a woman from the Rapid City area who typically comes up with bills that are anti hunting and conservation.

Seems to me that the correct answer to your question is NO! They haven't just gone crazy (not some of them), but some of them have been crazy for a considerable time!

It seems odd to me that anti hunters would kill off all the game just to prevent someone from hunting. The money from hunting and hunters is the only thing standing up for any of the wild game and the laws for their conservation. They are a resource and should be used wisely as well as protected to ensure survival of the species, both theirs and ours!

I have a friend who enrolled his property (I believe 800 acres) in N. Dakota for 99 years. The sole purpose of purchasing this land in the first place was to benefit wildlife through prime habitat. So, for the next 99 years his land will remain in upland and wetland habitat. Just the way he wishes it to be. No plow for 99 years:)
