happy thanksforgiving day and im headed west

Cant wait to leave to western ks early in the morning to walk dusty, desert like conditions for a fewdays im sure we will have no problem getting our limits by noon :D

Good luck, hopefully you will do good. I may go out a few hours west and north tomorrow or sunday to get the pups out. Have actually been finding quail close to home so may be quail hunting more here at home.

Noonshine Time???? Have fun Boys!! Gcb has them cornered!!!!

he had a snort ah the shine dont know how the rest of his hunting went but we did see a couple when I walked the field with him

Well i finally arrived friday in gove county about noon after i told joe 7 or 8 lol, i get there and we talk a little bit, he circles a few walk in spots and we would get togeather tomorrow so we go to the first spot i see an uncut milo field im headed straight there newt is going down the edge and comes to a dust thrown up stop head cranked so i know hes gotem you bouys know what i mean when your dogs gotem and hes gotem lol so i kindof get into my hurried up walk and before i get to him a hen blows out way before him then about 5 seconds later old cackle cackle takes flight he gets a dose of #5s and newt brings it 3/4 the way back and drops it kinda bothers me but oh well looks like he had a mouth full of feathers maybe who knows whatever? He must have been pointing birds ahead of those two dumb ones iguess that stayed behind. So i was thinking this isnt to bad half hour forty min into it one bird lo so weve made a big circle and on the way back walking a wheat stubble field newt comes on point again my buddy walks up nothing newt relocates sticks the bird again this time my buddy kicks and another rooster comes up my friend corkscrews on the rooster and never draws a feather i laughed my ass off as he says that was pitiful lol.End of a half days hunt. Sat we meet joe early in the morning he took us to lots of private spots but for whatever reason the birds just werent there joe has some awesome land to hunt but is very big and hard to handle with a couple guys. To tell you the truth i just dont think there are that many birds out there i never heard one positive thing from people around in restaurants or anywher a guy can do just as good closer to home, i personally think the farther west you are the worst you are going to do it is very dry but from the reports i have read there it wasnt dust bowls and stuff like that. I knew going into it we were not going to do good but im not there to kill limits or for food i like the dogs and being with my friends and enjoying the beautiful flat ks ROLL TIDE

Sounds like a fun trip. Glad it worked out.

Regarding getting your limit by noon... On our first trip this season I can tell you that we may not have had our limit of birds by lunch, but we had hit our limit of bird hunting by then. Hot, dry, windy... The dogs still had some GO left in them after lunch, but the hunters were ready to hit the oasis and BS rather than continue bird hunting.

I'm headed to Wild West casino country in a week. No ponds to jump out there, so I guess we will have no choice but to get serious about the pheasants. I do know of a spot to pass shoot geese, but I guess we will call that plan B...

My only reason for going as far West as I do is to visit family and friends.

I spent 4 days out in Gove County with GCB although bird numbers are down we still saw a fair amount birds but more important was I got to visit with a great friend and spend time with my Dad. I could have not fired a shot and been just fine with it. Sometimes we forget that hunting is about more than killing it is about relaxation and friends.

Greatlawn

Have a great hunt.
