There have been a few things happening around Dodge that I find a little amusing.
Recently, the old hangman's tree on top of Boot Hill was put to use again for an honest to goodness hanging. Story I got was that high winds relocated one of the two nooses closer to the ground than usual and a tourist went for a photo op, but passed out after putting the noose around his neck and hanged himself. He was cut down before any damage done, except pride.
It is about time for the deer/auto collisions to increase with the rut and rifle hunting season coming. Last rifle season a whitetail buck came into town and took refuge in the bath of a local title company. Now, just after midnight on Thursday night there was a car/steer collision within the city limits and Dodge City's favorite steer, El Capitan, was injured in a hit and run. El Cap's horn was broken and he had a fractured ankle. The city fathers think El Cap can be saved, although, the artist that created the life size bronze is deceased. Rumor has it that the eighteen year old boy, driving his grandmother's van, was texting at a high rate of speed.
The new special events center is under construction next to the casino. The center will feature ice, for hockey, special skating shows and instruction. There is an ad in the paper seeking an assistant skating instructor. Kansas Brittany, you interested? I have dibs on the Zamboni.
Checked the birth announcements in the paper this morning. No, before you ask, I didn't father any children recently. Always interesting to me that a name becomes popular and there will be a lot with the same name. Saw one today, that might not though. "Wayne Schweikhand and Stormy Swint, Dodge City, are the parents of a daughter, Heaven Lee Majestic Moon Stary Skye Schweikhand." Just saying.
Well, that catches you up on the latest from the Old West.
