Hanging Pheasants for Pictures

Roosters

New member
I am looking to make a board to hang pheasants from ...... Place to take pictures by after the hunt, like many of the big pheasant lodges have.

Asking what do people use to hang the pheasants from? Hook, nails,????

If anyone has a picture of one they have made, I would like to see it.

Why not have a rustic wall or board, drive in half way a few 8 pennies with a 3-4 inch piece of wire attached to the nails. Then just wrap the wire around a neck or leg. Roosters will hang nicely.:)

I'm a big fan of a good, old hedge corner post. But if you want something portable... i think the barnwood idea sounds pretty tough to beat.

Two smallish nails about 3/8 an inch apart, a pair for each leg, might work. Background: how about a nice piece of old barn wood? A nice accent might by a cow skull or a cowboy hat.

Keep the ideas coming

I like the barn wood idea. My plan is to put a board or 2 between a couple of posts(possibly a pair of rustic looking hedge posts.). Install something on the boards, so that I can hang the pheasants from them. Possibly add a pheasants forever sign to it or a rustic No Hunting sign. Just a nice spot to take pictures before we leave the field

Any pictures of other similar setups would be greatly appreciated

I'll try and remember to find a picture when I get home.

Local place does European shoots and their board is a 4x8 sheet of plywood between two 4x4 posts. What they hang the birds from is a pretty small nail (not sure size, but think tack) driven into the plywood. I'm not sure if its driven in from the back, or if driven in from the front with the nail-heads cut off, either would work. They then hang the birds from the vent in their beak, pressed onto the nail.

I know this does not answer your question on what to hang the pheasants on after the hunt but as I get older I am photographing my compainions and the dogs more and more. And photographing the birds less and less. It might just be me but having the photos of my family hunting together seems to be more eternal and long lasting than if you add the birds from one particular hunt. Just a rambling thought. But to address your question I always liked the fence post with the dog and gun, our two best friends.
Less to carry around.

This was always one of my favorite after hunt pictures. Last spot we hunted that day had an old grain bin on it. found some wire and took some pics before heading in.

Cheesy usually has a pretty good eye for background when it's time for the camera to come out. This one was on a timer so everyone could get in the group.

ole, good job with the pic.
