Grouse Opener 2012

Grouse season starts Saturday. Who's Going? I haven't decided where I'm going just that I'm going. I'm nervous about the Duluth area and the rains they got earlier this summer. Usually on opener I head up that way. This year I might try something a little further west. Think maybe Tamarack, Smokey Hills or the Bena area. What do you think? Where have people been seeing birds?

Good Luck!

I wont be out this weekend but most likely the the second weekend and plan on the park rapids area good luck and report back if you make it out

It is very dry up here, trees/brush are losing leaves like crazy. Our yard is full of leaves already.
Lots of the little ponds in the woods are dry. I would hunt the low and damp areas and near larger ponds or those with some water.
There aren't any berries this Fall but there is a good acorn crop especially in the Red Oaks. I think there is a decent number of birds, good luck!

Walked some trails in the low, thick stuff yesterday. Pup got three flushes, heard them did not see them. Singles.

I'm planning a late afternoon hunt, Going into the Paul Bunyan Forest.

Hunted the Remer/Hill city area on Saturday. 3 guys 3 dogs 12 flushes 1 bird. Pretty slow. Was super hot Saturday Afternoon.

Hunted Mcgregor Area sunday afternoon/evening with a buddy seen 3 shot at two and we both missed very thick still hard shooting  seen/flushed 10+ woodcock, all of the thunder chickens were close to what little water we could find

The area that I was off to in the Bunyan was occupied, seemed the nice weekend brought out the motor types. Anyway the area is open to ATV's so, they have a right to do their thing.

I went South to the Huntersville area, brushy edges near the bogs. Had a few flushes, but no shots.

Boy that cover must be thick this time of year, keep the reports coming.

There are a lot of leaves on the ground, lots more on the trees and brush though. We had a HARD killing frost today so that will get some leaves falling.
Thinking about going to the Bunyan today, check it out.
