Nov. 5-14th. Hunting trip. new area for us, previously stayed at Mina lake. what can we expect on public land in this area for pheasant and waterfowl. We moved to this area as some of our party need to hunt tribal land for waterfowl and would prefer to be close to that area as we will hunt that in the morning and evening. We dont mind traveling in the afternoon to hunt pheasant, nontheless we would like some basic idea of what to expect hunting wise in this area? Also anyone hunt the power plant land on the north east corner of the state? would that be worth a day trip? Any sharptails or prairie chickens worth hunting in this area or close enough to take a trip of 3hr or less for a day of something different. 8persons, 8 dogs. thanks in advance for any responses.
 
Grenville is certainly not in a prime pheasant locaction. Not sure what the numbers are around there but there should be a few. It's a better waterfowl area. Really no Sharpies or Prairie Chickens around there. You might find an occasional Sharpie but no numbers you can actually hunt. You really need to get out to the Missouri River and west to find decent numbers of Sharpies and PC's.
 
Thanks zeb. If we were to take a day trip for sharpies and pc. To grand river grasslands or buffalo gap grasslands. Would you have any opinion on which we should go to for better odds? Or any other suggestions?

Grand River National Grassland is in the NW part of South Dakota and the Buffalo Gap National Grassland is in the SW corner of SD.
 
Both those grasslands are way to far west I would say. I would probably recommend the fort Perrie grasslands. I'll give you a report tomarrow. Been hunting the buffalo gap. Not bad hunting but hard on dog with small cactus growing in the grass we did have good time. There are birds to be found

Prickly pear cactus and sand burrs are a PITA. Boots or stay out of those areas.
