I am a pro hunting and fishing guide, breeding small-scale a bird dogs, training of dogs and hunt whenever possible. (all birds, what we have here in Finland, woodcock, willow grouse, hazel grouse, black grouse, ptarmigan, pheasant, partridge, capercaillie, waterfowl, geese, not to mention moose hunting).

Hunting itself is not very different here in Finland what it is, for example prairie other than that we have smaller areas, but the pointingdogs working is little bit different style.
(maybe someday I get there.)

I have always hunted with dogs, I have owned Labrador retrievers, epagneul Bretons, GWPs, Finnish National Spitz (Pystykorva) it is barking bird / moose dog and Karelian bear dog is primarily a barking moose and a bear dog.
I've been very lucky to own a number of Finnish elite bird dogs.
My youngest German wirehaired pointer father is American.
(Sure Shot Marley).
Promising puppy, which was successful in field trials, and to whom I shot several birds already in the first season.

I follow and I am interested in general all the time what is happening in the world bird hunting and bird dogs.

Merry Christmas and a Good game shot of the new year 2012!:)

Welcome to the site! Finland sure has a lot of different game birds. Is there a lot of "public" land to hunt? Would love to see some pictures!

Hei!!
Tervetuloa to the site!!! I'm a 3rd generation Fin, last name Penttila, and while it's awesome that you're a Finnish bird hunter, it's even more awesome that you hunt with a GWP!!! This is Merle, my GWP.

We would definitely like to see any photos you have. Any capercaillie shots?

So, I've got to ask, what is Moose hunting like with a dog? How do they help?
Come out to Colorado anytime and I'll put you on some roosters!!!

Thank's
Here in Lapland where I live, the majority of hunting countries are state-owned lands. I have a free right to hunt, I only pay the state hunting license.
It's 30$/ year.

Here is link, to my pictures.

I know that a lot of Finnish families lives in the U.S., great to see that the Finnish hunting culture will also continue to prairie. I have a few friends in Alaska and California. It is planned to travel the U.S., that I would see the dogs at work and at the same time also would go hunting.

Merle is good looking liver GWP, a good beard and good tight coat.

In Finland, we are commonly used in bark moosedog very much, although some are scent hounds, but a good moose / bear hunting dogs searching the area usually 15-30 minutes of loops, begin few discoveries bark and will continue to fast stand bark. Hunter sneaks up and tries to get the shooting opportunity.
If the moose / bear escapes from the bark on the situation, a good dog to try to stop the moose / bear run 3-4 times and try to get the new stand bark.
This is short version of the moose / bear dog work.
A friend of mine has sold several Karelian Bear Dog puppies to U.S.

Welcome and thanks for posting your great photos. What a host of dogs you have for the different types of hunting you do. Stay in touch and share your stories with us. I hunt pheasant and quail in northwest Kansas with my epagneul Breton ("Brittany" is the U.S. term).

Those photos are amazing!! The moose/bear dogs really intrigue me. We're so happy to have you here and look forward to hearing more about your hunting and your dogs. Maybe the moderators need to open some international threads??

Welcome & thanks for sharing your album. When I'm not bird hunting or working my pup, my next love is fly fishing. Nice Atlantic Salmon!
