2 of us and my 9 year old lab hit the public fields a bit south of Tribune over the weekend. Did really well, limited both days although finished up the limit on Sunday only because we didn't miss many. 16 birds and on the road by 2 O'clock, can remember many years when two days of limits just didn't happen. Birds were there as long as you concentrated on the Crp bordering (or across the road from) good feed plots. It's all about finding the field with that sexy habitat out in the far corners. Dog did really well, only lost one runner the whole weekend and that was in neck high grass with 3 roosters down. He put up a quite a few really tight holders (those we all like the best). Gotta love it since he's mostly a duck dog and only gets about 4 to 5 days a year on roosters. Left my camera at home, pics off the cell phone are fun but not high enough quality to post.:10sign:

Awesome...yeah, I know about taking your duck dog to hunt roosters...my 12yr old yellow lab is the best duck blind dog, however he has always been an average pheasant dog....good marker, good retirever, just doesn't get out and hunt like the old windshield wiper pattern and such like his dad did.

I am heading out by Dodge City, Kansas this Thursday afternoon and hunting Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning. This is my annual hunt. I have been hunting out and around there since 1996.

I think though that the secret is out on southwest Kansas....need to find somewhere else perhaps ;)
