Got rained out opening morning for spring turkey. In the afternoon I saw some in corn stalks where they can be snuck up on from lower ground. Got in a good position and called but couldn't get the big tom in view to move within range. Then some hens got suspicious and they moved away. I flanked them on the lower ground while it began pouring rain. I stayed in the hunt and was about to pop my head up to see where they were when they gobbled -- right above me! Then I saw their heads silhouetted against the sky through the grass and weeds 15 feet away. I let the tallest one have it. He was a 25 pounder with a 6" beard and one inch solid black spurs. At such short range not a single piece of shot hit his breast. What a fun hunt.
