Got invited to vacation in Souix Falls

so some friends of ours have a cabin in Souix Falls for an extended weekend the third weekend of October. They invited us to join them. So I have a few questions for you northerners. What is there to do in Souix Falls? Or the surrounding area.

I also noticed that pheasant season is open at that point. Is there decent bird hunting within an hour or so of Souix Falls. It seems as if I could get away for 1 morning on this trip, but I can't turn it into a bird hunting weekend.

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.
 
Numbers around Sioux Falls are pretty slim. Have been for many years. More likely to see more hunters than birds. If you can get a pass to travel an hour I would head west. Mitchell is right at an hour. North or south of there you should find some birds. Shooting time is at noon. But if you plan on public land might want to get there at around ten or earlier. Public gets crowded fast on opening weekend. Good luck on your pursuit.
 
Jake, there's not many " cabins" in Sioux Falls. :). Are you sure you are actually staying in Sioux Falls?
 
That at least takes you into bird country. Not the best, (by SD standards) but not bad , certainly better than basing out of Sioux Falls. If nothing else, get out early and enjoy the country and the wildlife before everyone gets out of bed. If you like to fish, you can do that also. I've been traveling that direction this summer and there's birds there.

Not sure I would buy a license for a one day op.

You're going to be half an hour north of Sioux Falls and a little west. There is everything and anything to do there. It's a great small city.

I live about 1/2 way between Madison and Sioux Falls. Exactly what days will you be around? Might have time to show you around.
 
We'll be driving in on Tuesday the 21st.........in time for an afternoon duck hunt....We'll be in Clear Lake thru Sunday.....We usually fly by the seat of our pants..........no plans for being anywhere specific....would enjoy meeting people from UPH......Hoping to meet up with DakotaZeb.....George lives in Watertown about 25 min from Clear Lake............
 
I have been involved in one UPH meet up before. It was a great time, I would certainly be up for a meeting if we can make it work.
