Good Hunting Preserve in MN?

Hey Everyone,
My friend and I are trying to plan a trip to a preserve this saturday because I am sick of getting skunked on public land haha. Does anyone have any good recommendations? We were thinking about either Caribou Gun Club or Wings of Watertown. Thanks for the advice in advance!

Here is a list of preserves if location is important: http://www.ultimatepheasanthunting.com/USA/Minnesota/directory/

You being in the southern metro, I could also recommend Caribou as Randy and Earl are pretty good to deal with.

If distance is not too terribly important I would recommend highly Pheasant Ridge shooting preserve http://www.pheasantridgemn.com/ in Olgilvie, which is about an hour north of the metro. I'm a member there. Smaller operation but with good strong flying birds and nice size fields.

Thanks for all the advice. We are going to head down to Caribou on Saturday. I will let y'all know how it goes. We are going to hunt the preserve fields in the AM and then try our luck with some wild roosters at a few public spots in the area.

Hi All,
Caribou turned out to be a great time. We paid to have 10 birds released in the fields and we left with 14. (either there some left over from previous days or a wild flock was in). They had great quality birds who flushed and flew hard. I would recommend the place to anyone. Great facilities as well. I am already excited for my next trip down there. Here is a pic of the days haul.

looks like you did good! i think i am gonna have to go check them out now. did you manage to hit any public land after your preserve hunt?

Yes the birds were really nice! Strong flying and they put up a fight. The birds arent cheap (20 a bird) but there is no per hunter fee or minimum bird release. Some places offer cheapr birds 15-16 but they require that you buy 6 per hunter. I am excited to go back!

I did hit some public land up in belle plaine and got skunked ;(

yea i hunted 6 hours and only saw one rooster and 3 hens. i was walking the cattails and saw a ton of tracks and even fresh ones since i was there. no luck though.

We had a great hunt at Gold Meadow Hunting Preserve near Richmond, MN. Birds are less expensive. You don't need a membership. Room for young dogs to burn off some steam before you actually start to hunt. Variety of cover from cattails, corn, sorghum, stubble, grass, wooded fence rows, ditches. We were 15 for 12. Major Ave. near Biscay, MN is great also if you can get a membership. Wings of Watertown has been great for me and my son alone but know many folks that don't like it.

Me and a buddy spend the afternoon at Pheasant Ridge. 8 birds set out, 13 birds harvested. Birds were about as wild as preserve birds could possibly be. Dogs got a workout. Great day weather wise and the place was packed.

I am itching to get out on a preserve hunt soon, especially now that wild season is over. If anyone wants to plan a group outing to one this winter let me know!

I invited you out several times with me and my dog but I'm starting to think you're afraid of hunting with a girl ;) lol

Haha you may be right! Has anyone ever been to Baders Pheasant Run in Brainerd? I am heading up north this wknd for some ice fishing and was thinking about stopping there as well.

FYI,

Those of you who plan on hitting a preserve may want to check ahead with plenty of lead time as some preserves may be running out of birds. This year there is a major shortage of pheasants. I think it will depend on the club and who they contract with for birds.

I am planning on hitting Gold Meadows up this weekend. I think this may be my last hunt for awhile due to lack of birds. There are many places either out of birds or are very low. It is always fun to get out, too bad there is a lack of birds this winter.
