Goals for This Coming Season?

Goals

To get one more good, injury free season out of my 10 y/o Golden. I'd like it to be in MT with 'wild' birds but we'll see how things shape up.

I want to keep developing a love of bird hunting in my son. He is only 6 so I have to remind myself to slow down and keep it fun at his level.

I want to turn my young dog into a rock solid retriever. I focused last year on training him to be steady to wing, shot, and fall. This year I force fetch trained him and have been spending a lot of time trying to make him a classy hard working retriever to complement his hunting and pointing ability.

I generally take two five day vacations to SD a year. I would like to limit out all 5 days of a trip and never dirty the second barrel and never lose a cripple. Complete perfection.

I would like to shoot a true flushing in unison, in the air double on ruffed grouse. I have done it on pheasant, woodcock and sharptails but always whiff the second opportunity on ruffed grouse.

Most importantly it's my goal to see my old stomping grounds, hunting buddies, and get back to visit with folks I've met while chasing birds dogs over the years.

Have any goals for the coming season? Hunts you hope to make? New places to try? Maybe new species - woodcock, grouse, partridge? A first for me will be a SD private land hunt, only my second trip to SD. Pretty excited about it.

Going to give full time guiding a shot this year at high end lodge---more time afield for my dogs--may do some hunting on my own on off days but shooting not that important to me compared to dog work--will also be in excellent fishing area and will do some fishing at same time--

to put all the birds I bought in the freezer

to put a few birds i didn't pay for in the freezer

to get my 6 year old daughter to want to buy hunting boots over high heels

Try to get out more that last season--though with another wee-one due any day now I think I'm dreaming. lol

Maybe this season my fellow pheasant fanatics can post more pictures on UPH so I can live through your pheasant photos? May numb the pain a bit:D
