Getting Ready For Winner

Four weeks from today I will be in Winner for the 15th time. I have always hunted with Mansheimpheasants.com and have never had a bad time. I stay at the Warrior Inn, eat at Sawyers for breakfast and have a good steak at the American Legion in Colome. Kooch cleans my birds and drinks my good whiskey if I give him the chance. I have done some very initial preparing. My boots are shined and I have the required amount of ammo on hand. I started a list the first year, have refined it over the years and will take a look at it in the next week or so.

I have cleaned the Red Label and need to take the bolt out of the Special Field 1100 and make sure it is clean. I have plenty of Crown Royal for the flask, but need to pick up some Halloween candy for the kids and myself. I already have reservations for the first night in York, NE. I use to purchase my license online before I went, but now buy it at the old Rexall in Winner. I prefer to spend my money locally if possible. I am also looking forward to buying some Grain Belt.

The only problem is a stress fracture in my left foot. However, I can hop down the fields if necessary.

Probably the best part of the trip is that I share it with a friend of 45 years. He lives in Texas and we meet in Nebraska. To make things better, My brother in law rides up with him and a new friend from Memphis drives up to join me.

I had fun just thinking about your hunt. Grain Belt, Crown Royal, Ruger . . . Ibuprofen for that stress fracture too.

hmm... manshiems like to come to my parent's trees and scare the birds so hunters like you get the birds.. which pisses my parents off bc mansheims just drive into our propertiy and just go for it without asking... believe me.. im gonna be there this hunting season.. they gonna do this shit again.. im calling the sheriff dept for tresspassing... no attack on you.. but they are horrible people. they like to steal our hay too. they start cutting hay in our ditches and then come to us and say can we have your hay? we say.. hell no.. but thanks for cutting it for us. Not sure whats gonna happen this year.. majority of the corn and some spring wheat didnt get planted so i barely have anything to hunt on this year... except our honey gold tree across the hwy.... again.. what manshiems like to take our birds from.

we have a farm where its right off Hwy 49 and we have trees on each side of the road....

im done ranting.. i have nothing nice to say about that service. steal from my parent's land to make a buck off on you...

I once had a team with me and we were waiting for manshiems to finish hunting not far from my parents house, which i call the South 80... shots ran out left and right, next thing i know i feel pellets hitting my chest... 1/2 mile away, hunters were shooting toward us.

Linda's homestyle cafe is no longer in business in colome. , now its another name, but still same food bascially...

but good luck anywhere away from my land... i'll be watching...

WHAT? Are u serious or?

I find what you say very hard to believe. As I stated, I have hunted with these folks for 15 years. On many occasions, they have cautioned us not to cross a fence or not to go into an adjoining field. They always tell us what is their property and what isn't. Many times I have seen birds fly into a field and they will say "That is not our property." I have never observed them driving or doing anything to cause birds to fly onto their property.

Every year, before any hunt safety is always discussed. We are always told not to shoot toward any buildings, if any are nearby.

Leo had a stroke two years ago and has not been out of the nursing home since. I saw Travis last year and he was farming, he was NOT involved in any of the hunting that our group did.

yah i know leo had a stroke.. but doesnt mean they arent still trying to steal birds from my land, there are other family members that functions the same as leo has for years.. and yes.. travis farms.. hence why they like to take our hay...

they do this the day before you hunt... if you like.. i can video tape what they do when they do it the day before opening season.. they do it every year...

my parents lived close to them for over 30 years... we know how they are. you only hunted with them for 15 years say what, 3 days a year? sadly we had to live close to them for 30 years all year round....

That is a ways for pellets to fly. Most info in range books says the maximum range of pellets is less than 400 yards.

okay, it might be less... i just know we werent far from Mashiems fence line.. but still in a CRP waiting for them to finish up.

880 yards is 1/2 mile... so 1/4 mile would probably be more like it. im sure i will see that team again in Mashiem's CRP, food plot field again this year.. i'll take pics.

birdman, would u and your parents host a first timer to SD? I would pay a small fee and provide my own hotel and license etc?

Oscar, good luck on your hunt. I hope you have a great time.

Oscar, in my opinion you don’t need to get in the middle of this “feud” between your hunting service and birdman. ;)

birdman, next time you want to rip a guy a new @$$-hole just personal email me to get the anger out. You don’t need to screw with the guys good mood and anticipation of his trip. Take your “lovers spat” to the Manshiems and leave this guy out of it. -1pheas4

just wait til you own land and then see other farm/hunting lodges take your hay and pheasants to make a buck and getting it for free from you...

i didnt say that he cant enjoy his trip bc they do this... just putting the truth out about manshiems farm/hunt. never said he shuld NEVER go hunting with mashiems again... never said that.. just stated the mashiem's way of hunting. its great that hes enjoying the hunting with manshiems bc i think Winner/Colome has the best pheasant country than anywhere else. I can see how other lodges are more expensive as well... so i dont care if he goes hunting there... just hate it when manshiems go onto my land to scare birds toward their land to make a buck..

never said once he cant go hunting for them again bc they steal from me.. never said that.

Leo doesnt even own the hunting service nor the farm. their brother that lives down in Nebraska is who owns the farm, and hunting service. Leo and his other brother and Travis all run it for him... He told them, make me a profit every year, you get paid... so they go to the extend to make sure that their brother makes a profit.
