Game Wardens

How many of you got checked this weekend????? My record still stands!! Since I started hunting Kansas in 1983, I have yet to have been lucky enough to meet a Game warden!!! Maybe where I hunt there is not enough hunters!!! LOL

Not i, but my buddy and I were in some pretty desolate territory looking for scaled quail and there weren't many other hunters out. Someone at the motel we were staying at said his large group got checked though.

I was on a streak for not being checked, never had anyone ask for my license till I was about 27 three years ago, now after that Ive been checked once or twice a year since.

I have not seen a Game Warden during the upland season in four years. I guess to get checked, one would either have to be indoors or driving around in the truck deer hunting! ;)

YES WE WERE CHECKED! 3 years ago I was checked twice in the same day. Neither one checked our birds though the 2nd guy watched us shoot about 14 in one pass through wheat stubble. As he was checking licenses you could see the birds piled to the top of the bed, but he still didn't count our birds (yes, that disappointed me). He then got out his platte map and went and asked the farmer if he could hunt that strip the next w/e. I wish I had a prime field scouting job like that:rolleyes:

This year it happened S of Dodge while we were by the truck. Didn't even notice him pull up or walk into the crowd b/c I was getting ready to enter the field. I heard "Empty your guns and get your licenses out". I thought someone in our group was joking at first, but that wasn't so. The warden looked at all of our licenses. About half way through the license check he says sternly "Ok, now who shot the hen?" Everyone kinda looked up with a blank look on their faces and he said, "I'm just kidding". We all checked out okay, though there was one guy who'd forgot to sign his license, the game warden told him to get it signed and let us go.

We were checked just north of Stockton. We were waiting for legal light and he pulled up. Checked our licenses and had us pull our cleaned birds out of the cooler. He was a younger guy and nice as hell. Ended talking about my new dog box and other what not. Didnt realize we had been talking so long until we heard shots. Told us to quit wasting time and get in the field.

I still haven't signed it.

A couple of my very good friends are wardens.

They have a very difficult job and my hats off to them.

17 or 18 years of hunting and I've neverbeen stoppedin Kansas. A couple years ago had one drive by our group on the road at about 60mph, he just waved. I've never personally gone through a check station, but dad did once after bro in law and I went back to college. He was over possession limit with our birds, but showed the warden our gear and he was ok with that explanation.

In Missouri I've been checked hunting and fishing several times a year.

When I was younger I remember going through check points. Havent seen one in quite a few years. Are they still doing them??

In 2007 we were having lunch in a park when a warden pulled in and just started a conversation with us. I almost had to plead with him to check my license. We are from another state and explained to him we paid for it, you should check it. Very good guy and even gave us some tips on where to find quail.

I agree, hats off to them! Most of them are as big of hunting fanatics as all of us, yet they have to work all the opening weekends and holidays. Take the time to thank them if you get a chance. Most of them are really nice guys just doing their job. I repeat, most of them. lol

x2 KATroutman

We got checked Saturday morning by two wardens working together; both were very helpful.

I'll add that all the wardens except one were very courteous and cared about doing his job.

His last name is Drop or Dropp and hes near Scott City - hopefully he retires, but the ding dong does not patrol an area that Ive seen Pennsylvania plates driving 40 mph across a field chasing a 10 point buck, OK, and TX plates and NE plates hunting on a lake bottom driving across the CRP fields and guys jumping out of their trucks to pop deer that is all on private ground and Im certain they did not have permission not to mention they were driving across the CRP trying to start a fire in their trucks. Those idiots piss me off and Ive never seen that warden patrol that area even though its a known problem in the 4 years Ive been over there, yet when I was in my hunter orange and pulled up near him and waited till he got off his cell phone to ask him a question he tried to accuse me of driving on a field near where I parked.

Guy is a complete moron so beware of that guy if you're in the area. I know firsthand why the family I hunt with doesnt like him. Youd be better off calling the Sheriff in Scott or Lane Counties, not him.

Everytime I have been checked they have been great. I went through the LEO academy with a couple of them from out west. Good guys and the love to hunt and fish as much as the next guy. They have a tough job that could turn real ugly real quick.

I remember years ago my dad was duck hunting and had help out a warden once with some guys who had a little too much to drink. He ended up going to court over the deal but I can't remember how it ended up. But the warden was sure glad my dad was there to assist with the 3 A holes.
