I did end up talking to my acquaintance. After the initial interaction to check the wife(who wasn't hunting) and offered to call her husband so he could come back to truck for a check the warden declined and took off.
I wouldn't worry about it.I've never taken anyone with me pheasant hunting that wasn't a licensed hunter, so I can't dive too deep into that one.
I have, however taken someone with me in the spring turkey blind and the deer stand that wasn't licensed. I've never really considered if that person had to be licensed, but now I'm questioning if they should be.

If they're just observing you've got nothing to worry about.I'm straight as a grizzly's dick when it comes to these things. I enforce federal law for a living so skirting rules is not really my thing.
