Frigid Temps

Anyone hunting in this stuff? I've been out of school for the past two days and I'm itching to get out. Didn't know how hard it'd be on the dogs? I did get out for a little bit yesterday without the dogs to do some rabbit hunting. Got 3 for supper, nothing better than a fried rabbit and bread and gravy!!!
 
I was gonna head out this morning, but I thought it would be just too damn cold on the dog, and with wind chills at -20, maybe for me! :D
 
We are supposed to be heading out this weekend. If we don't go out west, I am sure we will stay around home and quail hunt. Either way the dogs are going to be going with us. I don't think it will be too hard on the dogs, as long as they are moving, now if you made them stand in one place for a long time, I could see that being hard on them. But if you keep them on the go, I would think they would be fine.
 
I figured they'd be ok while they were hunting, I was worried about after the hunt and putting them in their boxes for the ride home. It's pretty bad out there with that wind. The next few days I think there's a little bit of a warm up coming. We're planning on heading to Southwest Kansas this weekend.
 
i was a fool and me and a buddy took our 2 dogs out to nc kansas today, came away with 6 roosters and 2 quail. didnt see a ton of birds but enough to satisfy us.
 
We've been out after the geese on the east side here the last few days. Too cold for the dog, but the action has been awesome!

I have 4 dozen FFD's, and a lot of the time we use up to 8 dozen Real Geese Silo's as well. When the snow's on, I think we could kill them with about anything though!

I was out in it Tues morning and it was -20 windchill. Dogs were fine, I just kept them 2 to a box, and I have an insulated kennel cover to keep in a little heat and keep out some of the wind.
 
:DOH come on now, first you Kansas boys talk snow, now Cold? get real. Come on over with those EP's and short hairs if you want cold and snow. Hell I work all day in 30+ below all the time. Put some clothes on.:D I don't even wear gloves in 20 below. Thats bikini weather.:laugh:
 
We hunted in snow 'n blow all day Monday, sub-zero temps on Tuesday and Wednesday. (I didn't drive 6 hours to set in a motel room ;)) but it was brutal on exposed skin :p. The dogs LOVED the cold temps and fresh snow.... IMO

GOD, nice pic, looks like the youngster had fun. Now did he shoot all those birds for you?:D you can tell the truth:D even if it means getting shown up by a kid. Or is that you in the photo?:D claiming to be old on here posting when you should be doing home work.

I recall the first time he outshot me at the skeet range. He was rubbin' iy in a little. :mad: I told him that I wasn't "real" happy about it.
His reply.."You better get used to it Pappa" :eek:
