Former DU TV host among finalists for Budweiser Conservationist of the Year

EMPHIS, Tenn. – Nov. 26, 2010 – Jared Brown of Clearwater, Fla., host of Ducks Unlimited Television from 2002 to 2009, has been named a finalist for the 2011 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year. The annual Budweiser Conservationist of the Year program recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the outdoors and conservation. The winner selects a conservation organization to receive a $50,000 grant from Budweiser and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Ducks Unlimited nominated Brown in light of his commitment as a volunteer for DU, working both locally and nationally to support DU's wetland and waterfowl conservation mission. Brown served on DU's Board of Directors from 1997 to 2005, and again from 2007 to 2009, during which time he also served as Senior Vice President and chaired DU's Marketing and Communications Committee. In his volunteer role leading DU marketing and communications, he was a force for aggressively promoting the vital role hunters play in conservation.
From 2002 to 2009, Brown volunteered to host "DU TV," an outdoor show devoted to promoting habitat conservation and DU's waterfowl hunting heritage. As host, he strived to portray the importance of wetlands conservation and to demonstrate his passion for and commitment to Ducks Unlimited and waterfowl hunting.
A lifelong champion for wetlands conservation, Brown has personally conserved thousands of acres of vital waterfowl wintering habitat on his properties throughout Louisiana and Texas, and he works with others to conserve essential waterfowl habitat along the Gulf Coast. Brown has also enrolled his Texas property in a DU conservation easement, protecting the habitat in perpetuity. His stated goal is to secure breeding, migration and wintering habitat to personally ensure waterfowl will return to the prairies in good breeding condition.
"Jared has turned his personal passion for waterfowl, clean water and conservation into a lifelong mission," DU CEO Dale Hall said. "His conservation legacy will live on through the generations of people he has inspired, and the habitat he conserves."
Voting for the 2011 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year will be held Nov. 26 - Dec. 17. To vote, adults 21 and older may visit the Budweiser website and click on the "Cast Your Vote for Conservationist of the Year" link. Voters may also mail in their vote on a 3x5 card printed with their name, address and age as well as the name of the candidate. Cards should be addressed as follows:
