Flat-coated retrievers

Just a question on these dogs. Anybody out there running any of these dogs after pheasants? How is their temperament? I love the look of them, but I am wondering if there are any truly good gun dogs in this breed and is anyone breeding them specifically for hunting?

I'm sure there are a couple of breeders of field bred flat coated retrievers around. However, you will have to do some in depth research to find one I am sure. They are neat looking dogs but I don't know that I would chance getting a good field bred flat coat when there are so many good labs, Chessies or even spaniels around that will do the job and will be much easier to find a good one.

There is a long term breeder in North Dakota, who raises Flat coats, and uses them on pheasants and waterfowl. He has several litters a year and and has since I think the 1950's. It's Wyndman-Wyndmanian Retrievers, Mr. Atkins, Ashby, North Dakota. 701-205-4070. Never let it be said that we can't get a guy a dog!

Girlfriend said a long time family friend breeds them. Very friendly, nothing in the way of aggression issues, extremely biddable, but cancer and epilepsy are very prominennt. Very difficult to avoid that in the breed, actually.

Just passing along the message.
