Took my nephew out the two days after Christmas last week on his first pheasant hunt on WIA's and a buddies family farm out in eastern CO. Nephew lives on the Western slope but makes it out for a couple of weekends of Duck hunting each year, however the only pheasant experience he has had is listening to my beer induced stories of my dog chasing CO, KS and S.D pheasants. After this well deserved bird, the little S#!t went 3 for 5, who here can claim that hit / miss ratio their first time out? took me years to get my first bird, granted I started with a single shot 410 when I was nine
This next pic is of my lab (Willie) holding Tanners (nephew)second bird after picking up a cold trail, 10 minutes of hot and cold "hunting it up" followed by a mad chase through a knee deep crp filled ditch and field. Watching Willie search and chase that bird down while my nephew watched and commented in amazement was my favorite part of the trip, even after the rooster drew blood from my hand with a well placed spur taking it out of Willies mouth Not the greatest pic, but full of great memories......
Lots of birds out there still, but need some snow to keep them from running out ahead. Heading back out next Thursday
