First day with wing

Thats fun to see them point. You got some nice pics.

But you don't want to do the wing on a string much. It is just sight pointing and you want them to start using their nose.

some agree- I don't- this little fella learned sight pointing is benificial-
he's winning in NSTRA

it can be quite usefull for a youngster who is about to learn pheasants

just how many nstra wins does yor dog have what region are you winning at or are you just talking an occasional win at nstra how many grand national champions are you talking about? not that many britts are turning my head for national championships these days from the looks of your dogs they look a little over weight and not that intense to me especially with tongues hanging out while backing doesnt style have lots to do with points in nstra?

what region is your britt running i will look him up on the computer and see how close he came to dog of the year how many wins he had and how many points he scored can you tell me the dogs name i love looking up stats of dogs which dog continues to win championships consistantly? And weekend trials consistantly not just the occasional great day runner up placement one time a month thanks bryan

A little wing on a string will not hurt and might even be good. But it is not developing the dogs point to any great extent. I have done it a couple times with each of my pups, to get pictures. But sight pointing is not what you want a pup to learn. You want them pointing on scent.

p.s. a, few, well, placed, commas, would, help, reading, your, post, a, bit, easier!!

good one-

course mine don't have any style, can't locate, point, hold pheasants

i was just wanting to see how great his dog was nothing i love more than an awesome dog would love to look it up thats all dont even get me started with you cock rock this was shadow and me having a simple conversation from a few threads bbefore so before you judge with your 30 comments on the forum you might just want to sit back get a few laughs and just take your st. benard pheasant hunting and tell us how great of a nose he has since were talking style great points and intensity and the awesome backing at a whole 3 ft away

AJ, good looking pups you got there. Seeing a pup point is fun, the anticipation of things to come.
Also agree that the liver one is better looking.

Shadow, that puppy is cute. Yea I know huntin dogs are not suppose to be cute but that one is.

Now I have disagreed with Shadow before on something, but in my view.
He does have dogs that can hunt wild birds. I have seen the photos.
(note no one has said Shadows dogs can not hunt)
I understand the reasons we as hunters would like to see Field Champions and such from the parents, I know about intense points and style.
I agree with the logic of trying to keep a breed of dog held to a high standard so as to keep that breed an intense hunter.
(just look at what AKC has done to a number of hunting breeds)
One of the reasons I choose the breed I have is because the Association standards for an authorized breeding is HIGHER then AKC standards for breeding dogs.

BUT

A dog that can be shown to hunt WILD birds and do well at it, is a dog that has style in my opinion .

nice that we are discussing only a pointer

lets see, these 2 with 2 of yours out around Hays-
no shock collars, no whistles, dog that doesn't handle, locate, point, back, on wild pheasants has to be put up- sort of what I consider style

Toad mentioned he'd like to carry a camera

i like that pic, i would have to say my pointers would def have to wear a collar and to be honest your dogs are prob better than mine for now, im not that to thrilled about my two, but to some people they would be jumping for joy to have them but if were talking trial dogs dont send me a pic with one with his tongue hanging out and dogs backing 3 feet away im not that impressed i know what intense is how far a dog should back when it sees a dog on point when its 3 feet away its telling me its creeping in and not stopping when he first sees the dog on point? but shadow i would be the first one to give credit where credit is due dont get me wrong i am very picky about dogs and i have sen many many trials and still wasnt that impressed with that many dogs.

Hey Bryan (Only a Pointer)

I see you are in Olathe. What sort of trials do you run? I run quite a bit of AF stuff around here, just a bit east. Tonganoxie, Havensville, that sort of area. Thought we may have crossed paths.

i dont i just go them, watch them i like to watch which dog wins the most stuff like that, keep in touch with which genetics i like and then decide what dog i want for myself. also like asking questions to the trainers, handlers.nstra the mo-kan region

just another nut that can dish it out and cant take it. sorry to rain on your parade. guess I'll just bug out of this site thanks to you and your prickish attitude. thanks AH I'm not new to the internet, and post count doesn't make your opinion any more valid than mine.........you've just been here longer...think about it champ and then pound sand

I had the two pups on our nightly walk and the the brown one busted a rooster.

The brown one already runs a nice pattern, but seems to be hard of hearing when I call her name.

most eps are hard of hearing aj lol and hard headed whew!!!! im sorry for ruining your thread i will get my head out of the sand now:) how does the orange one run? he looks more classy on point i just like the markings on the liver one

Keep getting them out, wild bird contact is the best thing you can do for a pup.
