Ever lose a dog?

I always hunt my V with orange on it for that reason. I also use a garmin 320
Live and learn! We had five guys walking back and forth along that ditch for a good 50 minutes. And that ditch is not very deep, maybe 4-5 feet and not very wide, maybe 10 feet. and those cattails are not more than 3' tall.

We had just busted 6 or 7 from a stretch of 30 yards and I knew he was in there somewhere. He was where one the birds someone had wounded earlier had flown up and into the ditch. Other dogs never backed or found that bird. he and the bird were buried.

I had to crawl down and was trying to work my way through the tangles. Not fun! Finally saw him about 2 feet in front of me. had to try to kick around to get him to jump the bird.

I've never lost one while hunting. I now have GPS on while hunting. 2 seasons in so far. I doubt I ever go without a GPS collar again. They provide a built in layer of safety that can't be described. Knowing exactly where they are is awesome.

At the house when they're outside I generally keep a good eye on them, but had my 2 shorthairs take off a few times a few years ago when in the yard. Usually I can drive the section roads and find them generally within 1/2 mile of the house. A couple times they were a few miles off. 1 time they were 7 miles away.

A collar with a brass name plate and a few phone numbers on it is invaluable.
