English Setter or Red Setter?

I am looking at getting my first pointing dog. I currently have 2 springers and would like to mix it up a little. I have narrowed it down to probably a red setter or an english setter. In the english setters, I tend to lean towards the Ryman type. This will be a house/pheasant/grouse/quail dog in that order.

Anybody have any good input? And sorry, I just am not into GSP.

Thanks!

Boy we have allot in common, I have always thought about getting one too, an ES, that is. They are beautiful dogs. From the ones I have seen, they are a harder hunting dog then a red setter. But I have not seen that many of either, So I am far from an expert on them. I am just too involved now with the ESS to do it. Maybe some day.

Well since you dont want a GSP... thats a bummer. id say ES. my mom has a mixed golden retriever/ES in her and shes is just a farm dog, but she points.... shes a hard core hunter and shes hitting 12 years of age and still running after those rabbits. she'll point and once that rabbit makes it move, shes gone and she will follow for miles.

ES are great companion and great hunters no doubt about that.

A Ryman setter would seem to fit the bill pretty well. The Red and Whites that I have seen have been really nice from a hunting standpoint, just not certain they'd be as laid back in the house. They are still working on improving/restoring the breed and I think focusing more on field ability than calmness in the house.
