Encouraging news on CRP in South Dakota

With the advent of the latest General CRP signup coming up in May, I learned today that there rental rate proposals on the table to make CRP more attractive.

1 example would be where a farmer in Miner county had CRP expiring that was paying $50 (rate from enrolling 10-15 years ago) could re-enroll that land at $139/acre. Another way to look if if landowners enrolled in last years general at $93/acre they could enroll new acres this year at the new rate of $139/acre.

Some West River counties went down or stayed the same but that may be OK because CRP was very attractive as is when the last CP 38 offer came through the area.

They are still working on proposals and rates and will try to come up with the best package.

There is no updates on CCRP (continuous CRP) but there is confidence there will be some opportunities. I suspect USDA may not issue CCRP acres until they see what offers were made with 4 weeks of general sign up in May. That is smart.
