Ear Protection for Hunting Dogs - Prevent deafness in later life

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section.

My last dog was totally deaf by 11 and this has been attributed to the years and years I took her out hunting with me. To me there currently appears to be no solution to this (have tried mutt muffs and they are useless) so I am currently working on a prototype of dog 'ear muffs' for my newest Cocker Spaniel so she won't suffer the same fate as my last dog!

I'm guessing that if I need them then there must been some other dog owners out there who worry about the damage hunting is doing to their dogs' hearing so I'm willing to make a few more but I'll limit it to the first five people. If you are interested then PM me and I'll give you some more details.

Thanks,
Jack

Are you shooting directly over the dog?

Hearing loss in dogs as they get to later years is fairly normal and not necessarily related to gunfire unless you are consistently shooting right over the top of them. We need them as the gun is right next to our head when we fire.

I know you are just trying to be proactive, but not practical for dogs. Even if you could come up with something, the dog can no longer hear your whistles, calls to change direction etc...

it's more for when I'm in a duck blind and my dog is sitting beside me.
I am well aware that hearing loss is very common but the noise trauma caused by shooting has an accumulative damage to the dogs hearing.
