Dog Vest?

Hi Guys

My Springer is getting up there in age. I would like to help him out a little. He attacks the cover with reckless abandon and the cold has more of an effect on him now.

Looking for a blaze orange vest that will help keep him warm and protect him. Would be nice if it could offer a little floatation as well.

I like the Cabellas vest, but I've only seen it listed in camo.

Thanks!

Lion Country has some vests but I didn't see any that were both orange and offer flotation help. Amazon has some orange flotation vests but they might be too thick to want to use while hunting.

There are threads on this forum that cover vests.

Neoprene vests can rub under the front legs and may need to be trimmed to fit.

Best one I use on my ess that I personally like is a neoprene one made by avery. Gave away that skid plate thing and tossed out a few others. None are 100% perfect, but this one has lasted me a few dogs and several years. Trick is getting the right size. 35lb range females use the small. My big 50lb boy the medium.

I am a fan of Mendota, never had any underarm chafing . My first Cabelas chafed, and never got used again.... ( no vested INTEREST in Mendota)

But the OP is looking for a vest that will also help keep his dog warm. While the Mendota Skid Plate does a good job of protecting the underside of the dog it does little in providing warmth.

I gave you bunk info. The Avery was one that I got rid of. I have it in my hand it is a "Sterns" Size medium. Fits my 36-38 pounders perfect. Nice heavy duty plastic zipper that zips from the neck back and also has a flap under the zipper so the zipper does not rub the dog. Sorry about the brain fart.:D PM sent as well. Hope you did not buy the one I got rid of:( For some reason I decided to look at it. Guess this is a good example of make sure before you open your pie hole.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

FCSpringer,

I was getting ready ready to order the Avery, for some reason I told my wife to hold off, glad I did. Thanks for the follow up!

Well, You got my curiosity up enough to think about buying a new one. I cant find them now. Not sure they make them anymore. Stearns has a plant in MN I am going to call there Monday. Never fails, when something works great they get rid of it for cheap made Chinese garbage LOL. Mine has lasted like 10 years so I just never thought about it I guess. Should have bought a couple extra for the closet. They were only about 20 bucks.
