Dog chews?

Well I heard talk of bones and stuff so I thought I would post this.
I used to give the dogs various things like cow hoofs etc. hard things to keep em busy for hrs. Now after splitting a mollar in half and having surgery to remove the pieces, 5-6 hundred dollars and a education from the vet I no longer do. The dog dentist says to just give them raw hide chews that they can chew up in 5-15 minutes. If it goes longer take it away. Also smear some dog tooth paste on them and then you don't have to brush them. I have had two teeth break on dogs. She say's absolutely "NO more bones or hard cow feet" And if you do this you won't need a cleaning ever either. So I started taking her advice. I did not ever brush my dogs teeth, but this seems easy. She tells me this is a big reason many guy's dogs have worn down teeth on their dogs. OH also use the biggest kibble food you can with the brand you prefer. The big kibble helps as well.

Ken, she didn't say why on the 5-15 minutes. My Tony chews longer than that and has for years. Now you got me wondering. Even a raw hide twist takes him 20 minutes to eat the whole thing............Bob

Moderation must be a factor here as well. I'm sure millions of dogs have no issue with them but I had one get backed up with rawhide. It was a serious issue.

The toothpaste idea is a good one.

So no more pig noses for River? ;)

Any baked bones are brittle and will splinter. They can go into the roof of the dogs mouth or many other places in his digestive tract. Pigs ear can carry salmonella, they sit in big bins for most of a day(or more) during processing. Then you handle them, possible your children. The dog can lick you, your kids, Etc and pass it along.

FC is dead right on his post. RAW HIDES ONLY
