How many of you apply for elk in Kansas? I just checked the results and I got the big "UN" again. Oh well, more time to chase birds I guess!

I am able to get an over the counter tag here and have had for maybe the last three years. I have elk come across me from time to time, but have yet to connect with one. I mentioned to my hired man that it was time for me to give KDWP&T my annual donation. I have a lifetime hunting and fishing license, but prior to dove season I will make my stop at the office and get my HIP, duck stamps, sand hill crane permit, furharvester permit, deer tags and elk tag. Comes up to quite a bill and I chalk it up to a donation, although the IRS doesn't allow it as such.

Sorry you didn't draw.

Don't forget the prairie chicken stamp.

Sorry you didn't get an elk tag. Were you applying for Ft Riley, or where?

Oh, yeah, thanks for the reminder. I tell them to give me one of everything, except I don't need the hunting license because of my lifetime license. The stop at KDWPT is my rite of passage into another hunting season and I'll do it next week.

I have the same rite of passage, except my list is shorter than yours. I gave up duck hunting a few years ago when my lab died. My list is down to deer tag and HIP stamp, although the bill has gone up because I now buy both of those things for my son.

With all these tags and stamps and more stamps reminds me of a funny story!!!! I will post it in the Lounge so I don't screw up the thread by Rutt!!!! Hope you get a Elk Maynard!!!!!!

Well here is a pic of a KS elk, he will be bigger for you next season

Wish my body was up to a Colorado elk hunt again, but would sure like to take one of these flatlander elk.

I didn't even realize that there was a big enough herd there in Kansas

I drew a bull elk tag for first rifle here in Colorado. Wish me luck. If I get one, when we come out to Dodge in January to chase whatever rooster's that there may be Manyard, I will bring you some elk. The wife and daughters don't eat it, my son and I do though.

Assuming I get one, I will have plenty.

No tag for me also. My brother in-law got one about five years ago and has a real nice mount in his game room, so I will keep sending im my app each year.

Good luck next time around. An elk mount, even a european style, is a serious commitment of space... And would require a wife who either likes to hunt or is really, really cool.

A friend of mine got a 6X6 last year, but even the euro skull mount wouldn't fit in his old condo. "Will my elk mount fit?" Was a deal-breaker on his search for a new house.

I am originally from Utah and I hunted elk plenty of times back there and never closed the deal, I think it would be awesome to shoot my first elk in Kansas! I put in at Fort Riley every year, it is like playing the lottery, someone has to win!
