Who’s getting ready for the grouse opener on Sept 1? I’ve got an 8 month old lab pup and I’m counting down the days to his first bird season here in NW CO.

Yeah, it’s dry up here in the NW, as evidenced by the huge fires outside meeker. But we did get some much needed precipitation these last few days.

I’ve been out twice as well. Lots of birds first time out, not nearly as many second time. Going to give it another try Sunday.

Been out three times and managed a few birds. Should have had a limit today but poor shooting resulted in only one bird.

Went out this morning for a couple hours. Flushed 16 Birds, had an actual shot at 3 and got 2. Beautiful day in the mountains!

3.5 hours in supposed sharptail country this morning did not reveal a single flush. I’m over chasing CO sharptails. May try for some dusky grouse tomorrow.

Two days didn't see any, talked to other hunters all having the same luck...not sure what was going on.

Same here. Me and Maggs were out there about a week ago and it was to hot to hunt in the afternoon. She did get up one covey of 4 birds but that was it and I missed twice on them so that suct..

Y'all are making me feel better. I put 12 miles in the sandhills near Valentine this weekend, saw 5 got 1. The biologist I spoke to said they aren't seeing many juveniles, she speculated no bugs at hatch.

Another Model 37 fan! What gauge is that - kind looks like 16? And what general area of the state are you finding them? The drought was so bad in the SW I haven't even bothered going out.

Winchester model 12 in 16 gauge. I live and hunt in NW CO.

Oops - that's embarrassing! They do look a lot alike, from the left side anyway. But I see the longer magazine tube gives away the model 12. Oh well.

Thinking about going out to some favorite spots in the next day or two - between rain showers - see if I can scare up any birds.

We’ve been getting a lot of rain up here the last few weeks. Not great for bird hunting but we need the precipitation.
