So I went opening day and down by Adobe Creek SWA and other walk in ares down that way and didn't see much in the way of doves. We had not had a cold front come in until Thursday, today. So what gives? Anyone else out there that did any dove hunting have good luck?

Any recommendations? I had hunted down by Adobe Creek SWA 2 or 3yrs ago and we limited out by 0900hrs....

I live in the Spirngs...any other SWA areas worth the trip?? Thanks,

Greg

We went out to some state land east of town and got a few. The guys at the next tank were doin alot of shootin.we saw plenty if not for bad shootin would have had more. Headed out again now.

I hunted Hugo SWA early opening day and only got 2, saw maybe 12 total. Then I moved to Kinney SWA and that place was packed, there weren't alot of birds left by the time I got there, but talked to a few guys who limited-out.

Thought about heading that way again in the morning (Saturday), might just do a little better but it will probably be crowded.

Edit 9/4/10 - Just got back from Kinney lake SWA, was surprised to only see about 10 other shooters & there were few birds.

Spent the morning shooting with a father & his 3 young kids; did my best to teach them about dove. The two boys were hunting for the first time, passed their Hunter Education Class a couple of months ago & were ready to go & the little girl was their to see what it was about. I had a blast showing them the ropes.

That's cool....so Kinney sounds like the place to go for next year perhaps. I guess since opening day will be on a weekday, shouldn't be to crowded.

So it was pretty crowded when you went?

What about the duck hunting out there?

It was very crowded by the time I got there; made me a little nervous. Don't know what I'll do next year; probably scout that area before I commit.

Never hunted there for ducks, usually go up to Spinney or 11 mile or out to Eads for duck & geese.

Eads huh? Never tried that area for ducks....Spinney and 11 mile..yeah, ever tried Antero??

If you time it right, Pueblo SWA on the south side is covered with Doves. Usually its a couple weeks after the openner when a big push comes through. Last time I hit it just right I ran out of shells.

The WIA areas south of Lamar and the XY SWA east of there can offer some great after openner Dove shooting too if your willing to drive a little

Great Dove Hunts

Best dove hunting since 1971. Opening day, and 2 Saturday hunts, all hunters limited. Opening day 700 to 800 dove flew in to late afternoon water. Walked up flocks of 20 to 40 mid day. Going again tomorrow. I-76 AND hwy 34 AREA.

Awesome first post Wiggins! Way to make me feel worthless. I usually get a couple hunts in at some of those sod farms around Roggen. I just can't believe I haven't made it out this year and it pains me to hear it's that good. Just no time between archery and dog training. Anyhow, welcome to the site, nice to have more Colorado folks on here.

Anyone been out lately? Have any updates? Wiggings: What's the area around I76 and 34? Just curious.
