Hello, and thanks for the help! What would be the closest areas to find decent numbers of wild quail in proximity to the Southeast, specifically the Carolina's?

Tennessee is garbage. Kentucky is so so but all private land. I heard of people moving many coveys a day in North Carolina unsure of where. But you know how it is…. Everyone has a couple coveys.

Kansas, Nebraska, South Georgia or Oklahoma for quail

South Dakota was awesome for pheasant this year.

Those are the places we go to get the dogs into wild birds. Then I send mine to summer camp in the summer.

SD is on the bucket list for sure. Just hard to find the time to make that one happen right now with the boys. But I'm trying!!!

South Georgia would be a pretty easy drive from us. I will have to look into that for sure.

Elhew gave you the best states.

I thought the SE, GA e.g., had quail, quail ranches, etc. No more?

I hunted the quota hunt at a few WMA's in Georgia last two seasons did ok on one of them. The others were busts. I have also tried some of the other wma's that don't have quota hunts. With little success. I would not travel from out of state to hunt wild quail on public land in GA

If you are hunting public in GA look at the WMA regs closely some areas are quail quota hunt only. Some are only to quail hunting two days a week. Some just have a few days open each year.

Kansas is probably your best bet. Don't get your hopes up for shooting the limit there. Skip the walk ins, put the work in and you'll find some birds.

There are a few here on public… we found two covey this morning. There was a pretty good wind and chances were tough. The dog is finally getting pretty steady. Birddude is right. I have been hunting this general area for years. Plan on putting some work in. If your dog covers some ground you’ll still find a few
