Chokes again...

Question for the masses. First my gun club only has a 23 yard shotgun range.

With a modified choke would it be shooting high at that distance? Or low?

If the details matter, I’m shooting a Benelli Montefeltro 20ga, Carlson extended modified choke, fiochi golden pheasants. #5

Thanks

The choke should not make a difference in height although the pattern will be tighter than say a skeet choke and in theory could actually shoot lower. The rise is what will cause the gun to shoot high. At 23 yds, you might try an improved choke to get a little broader pattern.

Give a Light Modified choke a try. Underrated, underappreciated, and under used...

I use light mod exclusively. Started when I was shooting a lot of sporting clays. Never took them out.

I use LM over IM for roosters & sharps in my Franchi. Great combo!

What are you trying to figure out at your 23 yard range? Are you trying to see if the gun fits and shoots where you point it? Or high or low, etc? Or are you wondering what chokes to use in general for pheasant hunting?
