Chaps or chap front jeans

Chaps on workdays (so that I can leave the house in my work clothes - casual jeans/polo kinda thing), cover up with rubber boots and chaps, hunt a few hours, then easily strip off the chaps, hop in the car, and be in the office before anyone's the wiser. Weekend hunts I wear very light reddington chap-front pants with a pair of waxed cotton chaps over top. I started wearing the chaps to protect the neoprene tops of my Muckboots, because I have to tuck the chap-front pants in (my calves are too big to get the chap-front pants over the muckboots - lol!). But then I got used to having the better protection of the chaps, so I pretty much stuck with it. For me, if it's too hot to bear the chaps it's pretty much too hot to hunt pheasant with a flushing lab - we both get too hot. However, for this year, I got a pair of chap-front pants from Orvis that fit over my boots, so I'll be able to leave the chaps behind on warmer days.

Filson double tins all the way. Spend the extra money and get the leather strip on the bottom. Keeps them from fraying after a lot of use.

Used to wear the hunting pants until mid 80's. Bought chaps and never looked back. I also like the fact that you can remove them before going into restaurants, gas stations ect.
75% of the time I wear them all day but have found as I get older they are somewhat restrictive so I have adjusted my usage somewhat. First walk of the day is usually necessary if for nothing else but to keep dry. If chaps aren't necessary I prefer not to wear them but roll them up, secure with rubber bands and put in the back of my vest just in case the cover changes and requires them.

For grouse hunting, chaps make sense - briars, thorns et al. However, for pheasants, early season, plain lightweight khaki's and light chaps.

If it's raining or we have a wet snow, I use rain pants with a very light pant under the rain gear. My legs seem to sweat with chaps, but I do wear them in December over warm (wool) slacks and long u. wear.

Seems there's no one combo for the entire season...

gave up on chaps. Too constricting for me. I have a bunch of different pants but the ones I've settled in on are Carhart relaxed fit work pants with the nylon front panels. Cheap, comfortable, withstand about anything and if they wear out easy to replace.

We typically hunt really thorny country, so chaps for me- I HATE digging Wild Rose, catus and Russian Olive thorns out of my legs!!
At times however, I have used carhartt overalls.
