Carpe Diem

Thank you to everybody for your condolences, comments, and stories. I read them all and I appreciate you taking the time to write them.:10sign:

KB, I think it would be great if you posted some pictures and told some stories about Joules on this thread. The point I was trying to make with the title was just to remind people to get out and make some memories with their bird dogs. So I think it would be very fitting if you (or others who have recently lost a dog) would share some of your memories here.

KB, I was also touched by your story about the kids seeing you cry in the yard. After burying Rusty I drove home and poked my head in the door and told my wife I wasn't ready to come in the house yet. I decided to have a glass of spirits and a cigar out in the yard with the other dog just to spend some time processing everything. My "time to be alone with my thoughts" lasted about three minutes. First my wife and 18 month old came out to keep me company and then the 6-year-old comes out to see what everybody is doing out in the yard... So then everybody is now out in the front yard, including both dogs... So much for getting some time to clear my head. But I do live in a home filled with love and having the family by my side did help me feel better, so I guess they knew what they were doing...

Toad,

Great tribute to ol' Rusty and thanks for sharing the pictures. Sorry for your loss. It's always tough to go through that. I've got a 12 yr old lab and am not looking forward to the day I have to say goodbye. Hopefully, you will have some fond memories of Rusty while afield this season.

Toad and KB sorry about your losses. I would rather have a root canal without meds then ever have to put another dog down. My family is praying for you guys and two great dogs.

My sincere condolences . . . you & your partner had a time . . .

Gentlemen,

I am so sorry to hear about your dogs. I too have had to put a partners down and it was an always will be the hardest thing a hunter may have face. Remember the good times! This is Allie and I on her last hunt.

Kick Them Up!

Man, That'll put a lump in your throat

Thanks for the great message Toad, a hunting buddy of mine always says - "When you wonder who has the more unconditional love for you, throw your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car for an hour, when you open it - who's happy to see you?"

They love us no matter what and we love them back

sorry for your loss

Chuck

I can hardly stand reading a story of losing your hunting buddy. Toad is right when he says "Carpe Diem" and you'll never forget what was special about each dog you've owned. I still hear stories about dogs my family had even before I was born. I too have a 14 year old shorthair, my first birddog, and know the horrible day is approaching. I always hope for one more Christmas, then one more Birthday.

My condolences to all.
