I would think that if you contacted a hunting preserve in your area they would be able to steer you in the right direction. They might even sell you some birds.
Gosh who was it from MN for the get togeather, or training day thread said he can bring quail. It should be in one of those two threads talking about it.
I raise my own. Down to about 50 at this time. We fire up in April and run to October. Most sell for 3.50-6.00 depending who you get them from.
Shady Meadows Gundogs will ship them I think.
Training again believe it or not. Took off early with River and headed to the club in Montgomery. Ran about a dozen dogs. It went pretty well actualy. The snow is so hard the dogs flew on top of the snow. If I was not down south working, I would have had all the dogs. Next weekend.
I am purchasing some from Oakwood game farm but this is my first experience with them so I can't give a review yet. I am training a dog of my own for the first time so a lot of problems I am chaulking up to 'trainer error'.
Dan you can do plenty with pigeons earlier then that. 10 months old and I have them ready to be steadied. You, depending on the dog should be shooting flyer pigeons to them by that age. Your welcome to come and train here if you like.
There is a guy on the minneapolis craigslist that was selling quail for $1.00 a bird. They were mostly males but if you aren't breeding that shouldn't be a problem. I'm using pigeons to train my pup right now.
Yeah. He is down in Waseca, so I might have to make a trip to the Cabela's down in Owatonna too. For that price we thought about buying a whole bunch and putting my friends big pen back up.
