Buck with antlers

I have seen this guy on my camera a couple times
Really surprised that he still has antlers, even busted up like he his.

I think I read one time that if something happens to the buck while he has his rack, i/e a gets hit by a car but not fatal for him. or gets shot but survives, this can screw them up and they keep their rack for good. Might be the case here. looks like he has had a pretty rough go with something.

Not so sure about that. Whenever I have seen injured bucks, and I have wounded them before they drop their antlers early and go into a kind of survival mode.
 
I am seeing 4-5 other bucks on camera. They all now have new growth starting. Just big bumps on the head at this time, but noticeable.

He is a little thinner looking than the other bucks, but I haven't seen anything other than that busted up rack wrong with him.
 
I have seen a few as well and even some elk. Just hanging on I guess!!!
