I drove over to the Minnesota Heartland Preserve by Granite Falls, MN yesterday and had them put out 4 Chukars in a field for me. I have not had Bree on any birds since I got her in January. She is now 9 months old. So I wasn't quite sure what to expect. We had one wild flush out of range, she bumped 2 others and pointed one. I shot all three that she put up and she retrieved every one back to me. Once she got rid of some of the piss and vinegar she really worked the fields nice. After we had found all four birds I just spent time with her walking the fields. So overall I was quite satisfied with her performance. I can tell that what she needs is more bird contact and some steadying up. I am sending her to a trainer in Kansas for a month at the end of April.
I knew Bree would be a fairly big running dog just from her breeding. Turns out she is fast and a bigger runner than I anticipated. This dog can really cover some ground in light cover. She should turn out to be a great NSTRA dog. The heavier cover yesterday did make her work closer in so that was nice to see.
