Blaze Orange

Here it what is posted on the KDWP

" Many upland bird hunters are afield at this time, as well, and while they are always urged to wear hunter orange, it is especially important at this time."

So I guess it is your call, but I know I would wear it, and would make sure my dog has some orange on as well, unless you are hunting private land where you assume there are no deer hunters there..

I'm fairly certain you're "supposed" to have 200 square inches of blaze orange on while deer hunting in KS. I hunt in a blind though, so the only time I wear mine is to-and-from the blind... usually just my bird vest and an orange hat.

Edit: I was correct, for once. http://kdwp.state.ks.us/news/Hunting/Hunting-Regulations/Deer/Blaze-Orange-Required

Another Edit: I suppose I should read thoroughly first. It's always a good idea to wear blaze orange when bird hunting, but especially important during rifle season. I've already seen jackasses out the past week "road hunting", and even seen more jackasses spotlighting a few weeks ago. People will take crazy shots during rifle season because, well, they're jackasses. They'll shoot into moving brush and the like, without even identifying the game. Be safe, and wear blaze.

Cheers.

Required and urged are two different things when it comes to orange and pheasant hunting. Deer hunting is no doubt you have to have orange. To the letter of the law, that includes in the blind, fwiw.

I always wear blaze orange hat, strap vest, and upland coat which is shoulders
and sleeves anytime I'm pheasant hunting.

Wildcat- you'd be in big trouble if a KDWP person came up to your blind and you didn't have the required blaze orange on

I would not hunt upland birds w/o blaze orange. We have a guy we hunt with who gets all camoed up and it is really tough to see him in the field. I usually hunt in a small group and trust the guys I hunt with but still think it's smart to always wear blaze orange.

Its not required unless you're deer hunting but for personal safety and sanity Id be covered from head to toe in orange and maybe carry a flashing orange beacon.

I always wear blaze orange while upland hunting.Just a good habit to past on to the younger guys.
Speaking of this, has anyone ever come close to getting shot while rifle season is going on?
And not because you where trasspassing...
I remember along time ago, quail hunting SEK,having a bullet past over head,we where in the middle of a milo field, with no road in sight. We figured that piece of lead must of traveled at least 500-600 yards, before pasting over us.I didn't even know what it was, until my buddy told me,just a crack.psssss sound.
I won't ever forget it.

I've never understood that. How does me wearing blaze in a blind benefit anyone? Looking in, you can't really even see through the shoot-through mesh.

And, I suppose I should ask this while we're on the topic - in case anyone knows off hand. Am I legally-required to have my blind marked by blaze orange?

think of it this way- in the excitement of shooting a deer you step out of your blind and go to see if you hit it- forgetting to put your required blaze back on- could be you look arround a bit- someone sees something and shoots-

it's for your safty as well as anyone else- rules are there for a reason

we didn't like it when Minn said red wasn't to be used- we had some nice homemade red deer hunting stuff- but we followed the law

can't coment on your second question- think Michigan has a rule about that

I can see your point, but with the amount of trigger-happy "OMG I just seen something move" out there hunters, I don't step out of my blind without blaze on.

If I happen to get shot tomorrow, it'll be either a stray bullet, or a "person" that shoots at anything that moves. Note that I failed to call said person a "hunter", because a hunter always identifies their game prior to the shot, and does their best to make a clean kill.

Sadly though, ethics are vanishing at a quick pace.

Hello

First time question.

Is any blaze orange required to be worn by pheasant hunters when hunting pheasants during the Kansas deer season?

I understand it is not normally required.

Many thanks.

*Note: more pheasant info here than Carter has pills! :)

Bottom line is this,,,, wear orange, be safe, and go home instead of hospital

IMO, i wear orange while pheasant hunting no matter what, orange hat and vest. IF some one shoots me while wearing that, I'm shooting back lol

After hearing your stories, maybe I'll just stay home and watch football until rifle season is over.

during Kansas rifle season I'd definately wear as much blaze orange as you can- your dog also- not a good time to be out with a big running dog

advice- wait untill after the sun comes up- drive arround the area you figure to hunt- move on if you see a vehicle parked- or road hunters cruising

over the years I've thought it not necessary to be out opening weekend or the following weekend

I've been shot twice upland hunting- in blaze orange- some just plain want to shoot at something- best to stay away
