Thanks for the feedback. I’ll take another look at locking the hand held unit.

I just checked mine and the vibrate still functions when the screen is locked. I didn't try the correction buttons.

Weimdogman is right. If you are running more than one dog you can't switch dogs on the handheld if the screen is locked. The Alpha 100 is certainly not user friendly. I'd upgrade mine but my hunting years are numbered so I'll put up with it until I quite hunting. Both me and my dog are getting old and hunting is getting tougher each year.

Yes, you can use the training buttons on a Garmin Alpha 100 with the screen locked, but only if you change the settings from "With Screen Lock" to "Manual". To do this, go to the main menu, select "Setup," then "Training," and finally "Button Lock," where you can choose the "Manual" option to enable the training keys when the touchscreen is locked.
I changed mine to manual and it works! Awesome!

The Alpha has many bells and whistles it is just figuring them out and then remembering that is harder then it should be. That is the main complaint about the alpha. The small screen is the 2nd most common complaint.
